The staff of Range of Motion Physiotherapy recently celebrated 15 years in practice on the Range. Founded in Mapleton in 2004 by husband and wife team, Russell and Katherine McDonald, the practice has grown over the years to include four physiotherapists, one exercise physiologist and two receptionist staff.

Whilst still living in Canada, Russell and Katherine (both Australian) fell in love with the Sunshine Coast Hinterland during a holiday back home visiting family.

“We went back to Vancouver with the plan to return as soon as possible and start a new life in the country,” said Katherine.

“We bought a little cottage with a gorgeous garden in Dulong for our growing family and were pleasantly surprised to discover our local village at Mapleton had no physio clinic,” shared Katherine. “It felt like it was meant to be!

“With the encouragement and support of the wonderful GPs at the Mapleton Medical Centre, we founded Range of Motion. Within a year we opened a satellite service in Kenilworth to provide physiotherapy to Mary Valley residents who were traveling up to one hour to access treatment.

“A few years later we were asked by a local GP to join their practice and we moved our Kenilworth clinic to the town of Imbil, giving us the opportunity to service both the Mary Valley and Gympie region.”

The professional and friendly reputation of Range of Motion Physiotherapy meant they became a preferred provider for Ochre Health and so a practice opened in Montville, followed by one more in Maleny.

Owner and physiotherapist Russell, said he is incredibly grateful to the Range community for supporting him and the other therapists.

“We are very fortunate to work in such a beautiful place and within a quality network of other medical and health professionals on the Range and beyond. Collaboration and cohesion both within and external to our organisation has really contributed to the success of our practice.”

To celebrate their 15-year milestone, Russell and Katherine have chosen to give back to the community they appreciate so much with a donation to the Hinterland Bush Links.

Founded in 2011, Hinterland Bush Links works to ensure the long-term conservation of all native plants and animals in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. This is done through projects that protect, restore and connect habitat – the rainforests, heathlands, eucalypt forests, rivers and wetlands.

“Hinterland Bush Links also work collaboratively with a wide range of agencies, community organisations and landholders across the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and we felt it was the perfect organisation to support,” said Russell.

“Our gift will go towards the weed eradication, engaging volunteers to help landholders restore habitat, and deliver invaluable courses to assist land managers with targeted conservation works.”

Katherine echoed Russell’s sentiments, “Many of our clients are environmentally conscious, as are we, so supporting Hinterland Bush Links was the perfect choice for us.”

Meanwhile, Range of Motion continues to offer an exceptional and welcoming service, and Russell and Katherine are proud of their team, who are all local hinterlanders.

“We all enjoy being involved in clients’ lives and helping them get back on track,” smiled Katherine. “The people are always the best thing about our work.”
