The Maleny Chocolate Co. has been wholesaling to high end chocolate shops from Brisbane to Noosa for many years. Now they have opened a brand new factory outlet store right in the heart of Maleny!
Find them where Gypsy’s Table restaurant used to be, down stairs behind Monica’s Cafe or entry from the rear car park in Bicentenary Lane. Stage one was the completion of the new production room, churning out two tonnes of chocolate a year and growing!
Stage two was the adjoining retail area, freshly renovated and now open. This is quickly gaining a reputation as the place to go for free tastings of their products, whether it’s freshly made Rocky Road, dipped honeycomb or the latest slab of roasted macadamia nuts on 67% dark chocolate.
Stage three will be the cake and hot chocolate cafe area, hopefully early next year.
Locals can now enjoy freshly made chocolate offerings, rather than preservative-filled products sometimes made overseas many months ago. You can really taste the difference. And there’s plenty for vegans, as well as sugar-free bars of 83% dark chocolate, if that’s your style.
The logo says “the art of chocolate” and the chocolate bars are just that – a work of art, almost too good to eat!
Maleny Chocolate Co. has always had a reputation for the generous loading of toppings on their chocolate bars. They are also sealed in clear wrappers so you can see what deliciousness you are choosing.
Dorothy Hills is the driver behind the business. She was dux of her Cordon Bleu class in London and has been the resident cook for the British High Commissioner as well as head chef for the Nepalese royal family.
Dorothy originally brought her skills to the Green Kitchen Cafe in Maleny ten years ago, which became so popular she was run off her feet and had to sell the business!
Now Dorothy’s skills go into making ganaches for delicious praline treats, honeycomb to die for, secret recipe chocolate sauces and even unusual flavour pairings for chocolate barks, like sea salt and liquorice mixed with a smooth white chocolate.
