Mindful of Beauty, with Maleny artist Lara Cooper
By Gay Liddington
Lara Cooper paints in all mediums, with a unique vision for artistic storytelling. As a result her work is unique, fresh and meaningful, both in subject and technique.
Almost 12 years ago, Lara began painting under the tutelage of renowned watercolour painter, Charles Sluga. Using painting as the expression of her concern for a more beautiful world, her work captures a complex mix of the real alongside the longed-for and imagined.
Lara has received many awards for her work, including the Kernewek Lowender Art Prize in 2013. In 2018 she finalised two years of illustration work on a beautiful children’s book by Rosanne Hawke, to be published early 2019. Lara now resides in beautiful Maleny with her family.
Mindful of Beauty is Lara’s fourth solo exhibition, but her first in Maleny. Perhaps best described as snapshots of life, the exhibition covers portraiture, figure painting and still life.
A series of watercolour and oil paintings, it is a vibrant yet peaceful collection of work, which ask us to slow down and soak in the ordinary things which make life meaningful and beautiful.
Lara’s paintings are on display at Sarah’s Unplugged, 31 Maple Street, Maleny, from December 6 to February 5.
