LifeFlight Razor Challenge – Team LifeFlight

UPDATE: Dangerous conditions force LifeFlight Razor Challenge to be postponed

The dangerous road conditions which have in the past sparked a need for the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter to respond to accidents in the hinterland, have forced a fundraising event in support of the charity aeromedical service to be postponed.

Organizers are deeply disappointed that the Brisbane City Jaguar Land Rover LifeFlight Razor Challenge cycling event will not be staged in Montville this Saturday 6th October, due to the bad weather conditions forecast for the coming weekend.

“We have had such strong support from the residents and businesses of Montville and the surrounding area.  This event will definitely being going ahead at a future date, but unfortunately it can’t be held this weekend.  The safety of our riders is our number one priority,” said LifeFlight Foundation Fundraising Co-ordinator Mandy Hentschel.

LifeFlight is a not-for-profit organisation that provides an emergency medical helicopter rescue service throughout Queensland and has a base located on the Sunshine Coast, which services the Hinterland.

Each mission costs $12,500. However, this is a free service to the community that requires a proportion of its funding from charitable donations and fundraising events to keep their life saving helicopters in the air.

On October 6, at 5am, a group of 10 cyclists will individually push themselves to the limit raising vital funds in the LifeFlight Razor Challenge.

They will ascend a 5km segment along Hunchy Road-Razorback summiting into the beautiful village of Montville, 23 times, with the accumulated ascents totalling 8848m; the altitude of Mt Everest.

LifeFlight estimate the event will take between 21 and 23 hours!

‘Everesting’ is a world wide phenomenon https://everesting.cc/ where the Hunchy-Razorback climb will be listed in the everesting hall of fame, alongside some of the most famous cycling climbs from around the globe.

Brad Solomon, Senior LifeFlight flight paramedic/helicopter rescue crewman, event organiser and resident of Curramore will be one of the riders taking on this massive undertaking.

The LifeFlight Razor Challenge has the generous support of the Montville Chamber of Commerce, Montville Village Hall and Chic & Sassy Boutique.
