Book lovers are set to enjoy an outstanding line-up at this year’s Celebration of Books festival in July. ABC RN’s literary commentator Kate Evans will return to Maleny for the boutique literary festival bringing her passion for everything books, reading and writing to the Hinterland town.
Celebration of Books organising committee member, Claire Booth, is delighted to have the well-known ABC host at the festival’s most popular events. “We’re thrilled to welcome Kate back, headlining a fabulous program choc-full of award-winning authors and internationally-acclaimed poets. We had such a great time last year so we can’t wait for another busy weekend!”
The festival runs July 13-15. On the Friday night, July 13, Kate opens the festival in conversation with Bri Lee, a powerful new literary voice and author of her new memoir Eggshell Skull.
On Saturday, Kate will MC Poetry on the Precinct, a free event featuring five poets including MTC Cronin and Angela Gardner both internationally acclaimed poets.
And on Sunday morning, July 15, Kate leads a conversation with award-winning journalist and author Trend Dalton, Stellar Prize shortlisted author Mirandi Riwoe, and Brisbane-based author Sally Piper at the festival’s signature event, Sunday Morning Talking Writing.
There’s plenty for kids too, with everything from a Pyjama Party on Friday night and dress-up Storytime Party on Saturday morning, both at the Maleny Library, to creative writing and illustration workshops for budding young authors on Saturday afternoon.
There’s also a poetry workshop and the Big Book Club will tackle the multi award-winning The Trauma Cleaner. There’s a Bumper Book Sale, illustration displays, and a book folding workshop. For bookings and further details, head to the website.
