Landan, and his friend Riley have been working on a charity project for SunnyKids – a school holiday event for kids aged 14-17.
In year 9 and 10 at St John’s respectively, they love console games and want to create a social activity and are are excited to announce a unique opportunity for local gamers 14-17 to fight it out to become ‘The Player’.
The first of its kind on the Sunshine Coast, this eSports tournament event entitled “The Player” will be held at The Hive Business Space in Maroochydore these school holidays, from 10am on December 16.
This community event will see teens entertained, battling for bragging rights and, of course, winning some awesome prizes!

Fresh on the heels of their sellout annual show Hedwig’s House of Spells & Swans, bDifferent Dance Academy offers Maleny locals some school holiday fun with a dance workshop on Thursday 14 December from 9 – 3pm at the bDifferent Dance studio, 23 Coral Street, Maleny.
Back by popular demand, the workshop features most dance styles (including Kinda ballet / jazz, contemporary, tap and musical theatre, break / hip hop, plus a special ballet repertoire session) taught by bDifferent’s past and current much-loved teachers.

Watch golf legends
Amateurs playing in next month’s inaugural Live Life Communities Maleny Grove PGA Legends Pro-Am at Maleny Golf Club will have an opportunity to win a Kia Picanto, valued at $16,000, by scoring a Hole-in-One on the signature 3rd hole.
On December 16, see former Major Championship winners Wayne Grady (US PGA), Ian Baker-Finch (The Open) along with Australian golfing legends such as Rodger Davis, Peter Fowler, Michael Harwood, Michael Clayton and Peter Senior, all feature regularly on the tour.
The professionals will play in both morning and afternoon fields and accompany about 50 amateurs, with shotgun starts scheduled for 7.30am and 12.30pm.
The event will showcase Maleny Golf Club’s challenging new links-style, 9-hole layout designed by renowned golf course architect Graham Papworth, with an additional three of the second 9 holes in Stage 2 expected to be in play early in 2018.
There is no admission cost for spectators and the course offers some excellent elevated vantage points from which to sit and follow the progress of the players from hole to hole.

If you are looking for inspiring and crafty activities this summer holidays, then come along to Wing It!, a children’s workshop series all about birds, from December 12 – January 19.
Wing It! brings together local and visiting artists to set children’s imaginations soaring. From weaving, carving, paint and print, to sound recording, sculpture and story, this holiday program has something to delight and inspire everyone.
Wing It! is in December at the treasured, yet tucked-away, Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens in Tanawha and in January at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve in Maleny.
December 12 – Lorikeet Christmas Cards
Join Cheryl Nonmus from Paintbox to create one-of-a-kind Christmas cards. Children will have a wonderful time studying the beautiful shape and colours of the rainbow lorikeet. Using watercolours, participants will complete numerous awesome hand-crafted cards which everyone will adore.

December 13 – Weave a Birds’ Nest
Create a woven bird’s nest with Kris Martin from Artisean. Using Cat’s Claw vine (an infamous weed), participants will learn weaving techniques to make nests inspired by the Rufous Fantail, the Superb Blue Wren and the Scarlet Honeyeater.
Children will then layer their nests with paperbark, picabeen, string, feathers and assorted natural fibres to create stunning take-home creations.
Age 6 – 15: 9.30 – 11am or 12noon – 1.30pm
Thursday 14 – Stomp! Let’s Make Tracks
Different environments call for different footwear. Come and learn about how some of the Sunshine Coast’s birds differ when it comes to their shoe styles. This workshop is led by local artist Wrenna Hubbard and promises to be crafty, messy and get you stomping.
Children will transform a pair of their own rubber soled summer shoes (thongs, flip flops or crocs) into wild, bird stompers. Stomp in wet paint to make a bird track print, or leave tracks in the sand next time you visit the beach!
Please note: Shoes will be permanently altered and may get stained with paint.
Age 5 – 12+: 9 – 10.30am
