Maleny Neighbourhood Christmas Breakfast
Yes, I am pleased to say I have started my Christmas Shopping, so I feel your pain. All we want on Christmas Day is to see that smile on your special someone’s face when they open your gift.
But how can you make the looming Christmas shopping experience pleasant, relatively stress-free and enjoyable? Shop local!
We have loads of ideas for you in the paper if you are struggling to find the right gift. And, through supporting local businesses as you shop, you will support our schools, our community groups, that help make up the fabric of our communities…
Did I mention that we have unique offerings from local artists and markets? There truly is an eclectic selection of gifts in our hinterland to suit every taste.
We realise that Christmas is also much more than presents, so here’s a list of our local hinterland events – from carols to lighting up trees…
If you hope to bring more joy – circle the gift ideas inside and give your partner or kids a nudge, you’ll be smiling too!
From all the team at the Hinterland Times, we wish you and your family a healthy, happy festive time!
We wrap up Christmas events for you across the Hinterland in December….

16 Christmas Tree Festival “The Colours of Christmas”
The Maleny community can expect plenty of surprises at the upcoming Christmas Tree Festival at the Maleny Uniting Church. This year’s theme is the Colours of Christmas, and it will be intriguing to see how the trees interpret the theme.
Children will be well catered for: the trees will captivate them, plus there will be many hands-on activities, including the Kids Play Zone – depicting Bethlehem 2000 years ago.
A large percentage of the trees are again provided by community groups, who see this as an opportunity to add their touch of festive colour at this time of the year, as well as supporting a local community organisation.
This year donations will go to Blackall Range Care, which operates a wide range of support services in our hinterland community. From its Flaxton and Maleny bases and with over 80 employees and 180 volunteers, Range Care provides in-home support, social and companionship help, home and garden maintenance and home modification, as well as the respite Centre at the Care Cottage.
So we invite you to “colour your world” this Christmas. Make some time to come along, between December 16 – 24, to Maleny Uniting Church, 1290 Landsborough/Maleny Road, Maleny. For more details go to www.malenyuniting.com.au, Facebook or call 0409 268 665.

The traditional Maleny event, which is the only free community breakfast event on the Hinterland, relies on donations from local businesses contribute to the celebrations.
The neighbourhood centre is putting a call out for volunteers and organisers. Why not offer some time from your day to make someone else’s Christmas just that little bit cheerier? Sharing in the Christmas spirit is rewarding in more ways than one.
You will need to be there on the morning by 6am to help with the event. Please email email@example.com to express your interest. If you are also interested in being Santa, let Cath know!
