After nearly 17 years of running Mapleton Hardware and Garden Centre, Rob and Toni Lack have decided to try something new…. Hinterland Treasures and Garden Centre – in the same location!
“While we’d like to thank all those who’ve supported us, we’ve found in recent years that the hardware section just wasn’t working for us,” says Rob.
The space is bright, breezy and welcoming, with solid timber furniture, hanging baskets, framed pictures, clocks, lamps, screens, fine crockery, aromatic candles and much more.
“We’ve started stocking candles from the Coastal Candle Co, made from soy wax with wooden wicks, here on the Sunshine Coast, with not a whiff of petroleum or paraffin!”
Another new edition is the Redcliffe-made Canterbury Blue chalk paint, which is ideal for creating ‘shabby chic’ furniture, as no sanding, priming or undercoat is needed.
Rob and Toni’s daughter, Nadia, has already painted some elegant second-hand drawers, which look fantastic. “Nadia has always been very creative,” Toni shares. “She will be holding classes here very soon, helping people transform their furniture with these paints.”
The garden centre looks beautiful, with welcoming seating, quirky plant arrangements and interesting ornaments on display.
The re-opening in December went well, with a mix of locals and tourists. “I think our new Facebook page helped spread the word, alongside the Hinterland Times,” says Rob.
“We’re excited about the changes,” Toni smiles. “And we’re glad we’ve stayed to try something new, because it’s hard to beat living up here.”
