Celebrating Australia Day usually involves getting together with family and friends, enjoying picnics, barbies and games in the back yard or on the beach.
It’s the time when we remember what it means to be Australian, and when we welcome more new Australians to our wonderful country. Australia Day with the family is traditionally a fun time – and that’s what you can expect at the 2015 Hinterland Aussie Day Expo.
Aussie Day at the Maleny Showgrounds will be the place to be on January 26th. Kicking off early with a Big Aussie Breakfast from your local Apex chefs, the community groups that make up such a large part of life on the Range invite everyone to their displays, including hands-on activities, for kids, mums and dads of all ages.
After the traditional flag raising with the TS Centaur Cadets, Mal Brough and The Maleny Singers will lead a warm Maleny welcome to our newest citizens. Then it’s onto the oval, with free entry for all – kick it, run it, throw it, wood-turn it, tie it, ping-pong it, or just check it out!
There’s plenty of food throughout the morning and Aussie Day Games the kids can join in with – it’s all about having some fun. Seeing the horses of Maleny’s 5th Light Horse Troop go through their paces, riders in all their finery, is always an exciting experience, and the Firies trucks, and beautiful vintage cars from the Blackall Range Horseless Carriage Club are big hits with boys young and old!
Looking for info on when arts and crafts, or touch footy or table tennis is on, or maybe you’d like to know more about the Garden Club or the Woodies? Perhaps you have kids who’d love to get involved in athletics? Do you want to help out at the Rural Fire Services or find out about the Lions? Maybe yours has a Thespian leaning? Come and meet the Maleny Players and Maleny Singers!
With so many different recreational clubs on the Range, there is bound to be something of interest for anyone, any age, who’s keen on getting involved. On Aussie Day in Maleny you can have a go in a relaxed atmosphere or simply find out more, all in one morning at the Maleny Showgrounds.
There are prizes too – Range businesses have got into the action, donating some great items for families to win. Expo visitors can collect their free Expo Passports on the way in, giving you a chance to win prizes and vouchers just by collecting animal stamps from the displays. Drawn at 12 noon, you could win some great vouchers or prizes from:
- Australia Zoo
- Brush Turkey Enterprises
