AGROUP OF YOUNG HINTERLAND ADULTS with disabilities, and a passion for the theatre have just launched their first stage performance to great acclaim.

Based in Palmwoods, The Sunshine Troupe Inc. delivered a glittering performance of The Wiz to a full house at the Buderim War Memorial Hall on October 30. The 13 troupe members were accompanied in their acting debut by dancers from Maleny State High School, and Out of the Blue Choir. The BATS Theatre Group also lent their professional support with playwright Bruce Olive managing the lighting, and stunning backdrops designed by artist Luke FitzGerald.

The Sunshine Troupe members are aged from 12-31 years age and live with various physical and/or intellectual impairments. They receive strong support from across the Hinterland. For example, Maleny State High School teachers, Kris FitzGerald and Lisa Lenour have been working with the group for close to two years as they have developed their singing, dancing and acting talents. From its inception the group has also been generously supported by the Compass Institute Inc based in Palmwoods, and has received funding from the Nambour RSL and the Sunshine Coast Council.
