The popular Indian restaurant Bombay Mahal at the top end of Maple St in Maleny is continually evolving and new dine-in and take-away menus are now available.
Owner and chef, Sam Kularni says, “A strong influence on my cooking style are the authentic dishes of Mumbai in Maharasti state where I was raised.” Sam prepares these traditional dishes using only fresh ingredients, herbs and spices. New take-away dishes include choices such as Fish Nariyal, a curry cooked in coconut milk, Baingan Bharta a medium spiced eggplant curry and a very popular dish at Sam’s previous restaurant, and Pumpkin Curry. There are also two new Naan Breads filled with chicken or spicy onions. For those dining in, Sam has added more fresh seafood choices, so ask staff about the dishes prepared from the catch of the day.
Under the swags of silk sarongs you can also expect to find a sweets trolley revealing Gulab Jamon and the famed Mango Parfait. New additions include tempting, freshly home-made pastry and shortbreads made with dates, rosewater, cashew and pistachio nuts and honey, Turkish delights, and other delicious nibbles. The sweets trolley is wheeled to your table where you can make your selection while the freshly made authentic chai bubbles on the stove top.
Sam has extended and opened up the dining area, while ensuring it retains the exotic style and intimate atmosphere regular diners have come to appreciate. He has further plans for the garden, and the re-introduction of candlelight courtyard dining as the weather warms.
With all these plans to grow and mature the restaurant, Sam’s ambition is that Bombay Mahal will become the Indian restaurant of which Maleny can be truly proud.
