Baby Tawnies by Hinterland writer, Judy Paulson, is a classic tale of spreading your wings, with an Australian twist.
The two baby tawnies, the heroes of this book, Lyla and Reggie work out how to leave the nest and learn to fly. Lyla is the more adventurous while Reggie thinks it is all too hard, but spurring each other on they get there in the end. Their devoted parents
have no hint of what their children are up to each day because they are out gathering food.
Judy Paulson has also designed the illustrations in this book, and it will attract the attention of young children and will remind their parents that while nocturnal, tawny frogmouths are not owls.
They mate for life, are very good parents, staying with their babies until they can fly and learn to hunt.
