NEW OWNERS of the Tree Frog Gallery on the Maleny Montville Road, Heather Gall and David Simpson said, “It is a credit to previous owner, Ron Ward, who had a vision of making the iconic gallery space what it is today. Now, we have an exciting new direction and vision of our own.”
Heather, a long time Maleny resident, visual artist and children’s book illustrator, has worked in the creative arts industry for many years. David is the mainstay behind the scenes, a man who can turn his hand to anything! “He actually milks cows in his spare time!” Heather said.
Together their dream for the Tree Frog Gallery is to promote Heather’s work, and to engage local artists in actively participating at the gallery by showcasing their work, demonstrating and teaching and extending their arts practices in an interactive way.
Heather and David’s model for the gallery is a non- conventional approach and one where you will see various forms of arts practice happening. They hope to encourage all genres of creativity including vocal, writing, painting, sculpture, film, performance art, children’s workshops and the occasional quirky art competition or something they haven’t thought of yet!
Heather says, “as artists together we can achieve much. We play a vital role in sustaining a cohesive, imaginative and fulfilled community. For me, this gallery concept is a revolving door of ideas and creativity where it’s path is not set… it is a journey we will travel… there will be turns in the road and we will decide which ones to take.
The Gallery will re-open on April 7at 10am 2012, with a 3pm launch of Heather’s art works, a body of paintings developed over the past couple of years, portraying Heather’s visual and emotional interpretation of different environments. The exhibition is titled “A New Road Taken”.
There is also a showcase of works by many local artists in the ‘Artists Gallery’ until May 7th followed by the Wootha Exhibition, a show case of the winning woodwork artists during the Maleny Wood Expo. This exhibition will run from May 7-28.
Gallery hours will be 10am-4pm Thurs to Mon. 07 5435 2303 0417 784 520
