FOURTEEN IGA stores around the Sunshine Coast are getting behind the inaugural Real Food Festival in July.
The Hinterland’s great supporter of community groups, Maleny Supa IGA owner, Rob Outridge, has received solid backing from other IGA stores in the region to provide financial support to the Festival.
IGA will provide several thousand dollars to the organisers who will promote and celebrate links between the independent supermarket group and local producers. IGA has a stated commitment to real food.
The Festival organisers, Lena Smeaton and Julie Shelton say they are working on a range of activities for the region including in-store promotions, free ticket competitions and cooking demonstrations.
Rob Outridge of Maleny Supa IGA told HT: “Supporting the Real Food Festival was a “no brainer” for IGA stores on the Sunshine Coast. We are all Sunshine Coast locals, supporting Sunshine Coast locals. IGA Supermarkets on the Coast sell many millions of dollars worth of locally grown and manufactured product. That money starts and stops on the Sunshine Coast, it does not get vacuumed through to Head Office in Sydney; it stays within our local communities. It is just good business!
