THEIR NUMBERS may be small, but the twenty active members of the Maleny Hospital Auxiliary achieve huge benefits for the Hospital and its patients, and it’s all down to morning teas!

For example, the Auxiliary recently contributed $15,000 towards the cost of a $26,000 ultrasound machine. Auxiliary President Eve Breiner told the Hinterland Times that her members are forever baking cakes, preparing morning teas, packing picnic lunches and catering for community groups, like the Open Garden scheme, and Maleny Singers performances. They also run a Flowers and Fashions function in May which is always booked out.

What makes the Auxiliary so committed is that they always have a goal says Eve. Their next goal is a special bed that will lift a patient sideways as well as upwards, easing the workload on nursing staff. Eve said her group are also planning to replace the 13 remaining analogue TV sets in patient rooms with flat screen digitals.

“We always try to spend locally,” says Eve, “and we have a very good deal from Bi-Rite in Maleny to supply the TVs and wall brackets.”
