MALENY JEWELLERS apprentice Ashley Naumann was thrilled to be awarded a silver medal in the jewellery category of the recent WorldSkills Australia National competition held in Brisbane.

Ashley said. “Everyone was given the same design and all contestants were marked on how accurately the work was recreated, and I was very happy with the result.”

WorldSkills’ purpose is to promote and build a skills respect culture by celebrating skills excellence, inspiring young people and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their trade and talent.

They achieve this goal through competitions held on a regional, national and international level. They also produce skill ambassadors that are held up as beacons to show the success that is possible via a trade or skill-based career.

Ashley is also a finalist in the Jewellers Association of Australia apprentice showcase and design category which will be announced on August 30.

Jim Goulton owner of Maleny Jewellers says “Ashley is a very talented designer – a rare gem who really has a feel for what our customers are looking for. I think he is in with a real chance to take out the award. Sandra and I and our whole team are right behind him and wish him all the best.”
