Local Sunshine Coast Grammar School student, Josie Whitburn (above), has been honoured by having her work recognised and selected for exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra as part of a national secondary school art competition.
The Headspace10 exhibition showcases portrait art produced by secondary students from Year 7 to Year 12 and this year‟s portrait submissions represent the largest number of schools, from across the country, with only 100 pieces being selected for the national exhibition.
Josie‟s artwork title „Caught Under‟is about personal struggles and a myriad of feelings which she reflected through the complex notion of emotional stress using graphite, progresso and stumpy on cartridge paper to depict strong and difficult emotions.
Headspace10 celebrates ten years of the Headspace project at the National Portrait Gallery where Josie‟s work will be on display from September 9 – November 7.
