Audiences on the Sunshine Coast will get a rare opportunity to experience world-renowned Australian pianist David Helfgott in concert when he performs at Sunshine Coast Grammar School in July.
Mr Helfgott’s appearance at Grammar is part of a series of not-for profit concerts, backed by the Ellaways Music Foundation, which raises money for school music programs and resources. Grammar is the only Sunshine Coast school Mr Helfgott will perform at on this tour.
“The benefits of music in education are well documented, but many school music departments need extra financial support,’’ says David’s wife Gillian Helfgott.
“David is so excited about being able to help students advance their love of music and provide a platform for the next generation of musicians.’’
“David Helfgott is a unique and talented Australian musician and a consummate performer,” said Brendan Scully, Grammar’s head of performing arts.
“There is no doubt that all who come and hear David – musicians and music lovers alike – are in for a great evening,” he said.
David Helfgott, whose life story was made famous in the Oscar-winning film Shine will perform for one night only at Sunshine Coast Grammar School on Saturday 24 July from 7– 9pm, with pre-show drinks starting at 6pm.
