FIVE REMARKABLE and massive stainless-steel sculptures left Maleny recently for Byron Bay’s Artscape Biennial. The sculptures were created by multi-talented artist, Cezary Stulgis and collectively they are called, Animal Within.

Cezary said he won the Artscape commission from drawings for his five bizarre, welded sculptures. He says they are a metaphor for human behaviour. The curious combination of hybrid dog bodies with human hands actually started with reference to Cezary’s own doberman, Stash.

Cezary works from his giant studio / shed overlooking the Conondales. Apart from sculpture, he also paints, and one of his latest works has been selected for the final 40 works in the Sunshine Coast Art Prize (see pages 18-19).
