MALENY BASED building designer has won this year’s Australian Design Awards for Best Residence (up to 250 sqm) in Australia.

The winning project was the “Glass on Glasshouse” residence set in the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains area in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Norm has also won the 2010 Sunshine Coast Regional Building Design Award for Best Public Building and Special Projects for his renovation of the Maleny Community Centre.

“One of the goals of the design was to turn the neglected back of the hall into a second front”, Norm told the Hinterland Times. “It’s a move that looks to the future of Maleny and the increasing importance of Coral St/Bicentennial Lane. The pedestrian link here is unique and we are currently negotiating with Council to fund construction of the new landscaping of the laneway.”

Thanks and congratulations to the clients, the builder Chris Hall and EBIS engineers and everyone else involved in the project.

To complete his winning streak, Norm also won Best Commercial Building for the new offices and showroom of Unique Structural Company at 18 Coral Street. This project also won an overall award for Environmentally Sustainable Design. Norm says “it encorporates good orientation and natural ventilation with appropriately placed windows and louvres to create a work environment that is naturally lit and comfortable year round, without additional heating or air conditioning.”
