FOLLOWING the successful fundraising ‘Bowl, Feast and Frolic’ event last month, the Maleny Community Centre is eager to move to the next stage of its $1 million target for the total renovation of the town’s well-loved meeting centre.
Centre President Heather Spring said that it is almost the end of the financial year, and now is the perfect time for potential donors to give generously towards the remodelling of the front of the building. Gifts to this campaign are tax deductible.
The renovation, designed by multi, award-winning designer Norman Richards will include a new, two storey frontage onto Maple Street, replacement of the front stairs with a flat inviting entrance, extension of the upper story over the footpath with a veranda space, and improvement of the internal hall space.
The first stage, including removal of the asbestos exterior and re-cladding, and a total rebuilding of the rear of the building, including senior citizens facilities, has earned high praise from user groups. It has also received the 2010 Sunshine Coast Regional Building Design Award for Best Public Building and Special Projects.
The challenge says Heather is that the Maleny Community Centre is owned by the community not Sunshine Coast Regional Council, and therefore the cost of its renovation and maintenance is in the hands of the community.
Help us achieve our goal and invest in this important community social asset with a tax deductible gift to the renovation of the Maleny Community Centre.
