INTERNATIONAL ceramist, Johanna DeMaine, whose studio and gallery are in Landsborough will visit Jingdezhen City in China for three weeks to attend a summer school and network with other artists. Jingdezhen City is a sister city of the Sunshine Coast and has an 1800 year reputation as the porcelain capital of China.

Already regarded as an accomplished ceramist, Johanna was awarded the summer school place so that she can further her hands-on experience by learning the traditional Chinese approach to decoration in both underglaze and overglaze techniques.

While at Jingdezhen Johanna will give powerpoint presentations on ceramics and record interviews on day to day life in the region, using her HD video camera.

Johanna says of her trip “I want to increase my knowledge and skills levels, and disseminate this within the ceramic community on the Sunshine Coast, so that our ceramists will be able to hold their own in the global scene.”

Johanna DeMaine has participated in more than 150 group exhibitions as well as being represented in more than 25 significant collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Crown Prince Federick and Princess Mary of Denmark, Queen Elizabeth 11, Governor General of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery and Brisbane City Gallery.

Johanna is represented in Queensland by Art on Cairncross in Maleny.
