A frequently asked question in March was ‘when is the rain going to stop?’ Happily, after the long spell of wet weather the Easter long weekend break brought idyllic sunny days and Lake Baroon was a popular venue for family reunions and barbeques. It was a delight to see brightly coloured kayaks being paddled across the water by young and old. The weather was also perfect for the large crowds attending the many Anzac Day services held across the Range.
In the second week of April a large high covered the whole of Australia with a ridge extending up the east coast. This resulted in a spell of hot and muggy weather over the hinterland and was responsible for a one degree rise in mean temperature. The main feature for the remainder of the month was isolated shower activity, heavy at times, brought in over the Ranges on a maritime NE/SE airflow. Total rainfall for the month was 138mm, representing 42mm below average. Annual rainfall to date is 1482.6mm, which is 378mm above the 117 year average for the same period. The wettest April month ever to be recorded at Maleny was in 1989 with 1052mm. It started with ex-TC “Aivu” bringing in a rain depression early in the month. Later in the month another rain depression brought in four days of torrential rain, including Anzac Day,
