Hinterland artist Kevin Oxley continues his remarkable creative journey of confrontating his pancreatic cancer through his art. “Life Fractals” is Kevin’s entry in the 2010 Sunshine Coast Art Prize and he explains its content and its context:

“This is a visual summary of my life in a collage of fragmented images on canvas. This combination of acrylic paint and digital photographs embraces the technical age in which we live and references technology as key to me in surviving the past 4 years.

The Samurai warrior styled jacket symbolises my psychological/emotional armour of protective layers and my drawing on the “warrior within”.

If you look closely you can see that my “armour” is built from all those things helping me through this continuing battle. You will see family members, pain relieving drug packets, ventolin puffers and paintings done previously on this theme of the warrior fighting against great odds.”

Entries in the $15,000 cash prize will be exhibited at the Caloundra Regional Gallery from August 18, 2010.
