If you want to change the government you need to change the collective consciousness.

The government is just the mirror of the collective consciousness of the society. Politicians with great ideals and the best of intentions may get into power only to find they are powerless to follow through with their ethical agenda.

The collective consciousness of a society is the sum total of all the individual consciousnesses in the group. Every thought, word and action that we put out influences the collective consciousness and in turn the quality of the collective consciousness influences us. When we go to a stressed, crime ridden or polluted place we pick up on it and this effects how we feel and behave, likewise when we are in a relaxed, harmonious, open minded community we feel uplifted and able to think more clearly.

It has been found and validated in numerous scientific experiments worldwide that when you get 1% of the population practising Transcendental Meditation in a group it is enough to alter the quality of the collective consciousness in a positive way. Some of the indicators have shown reduction in crime rate, decreased traffic fatalities, improvements in the stock market and reductions in suicides. A 1970 study which recorded a 76% reduction in war deaths in Lebanon, when a meditating group came together, had such good statistical evidence that it was published in the Journal of Conflict Resolution despite the editors note that “the hypothesis, to be frank, I regard as absurd.”

The rise in coherence and positivity is due to the fact that during the practice of TM, the individual experiences the most subtle level of the mind which is also the level of the Unified Field or pure consciousness. Pure consciousness describes the state of consciousness in its most unified state. It is like being at the bottom of the ocean as opposed to riding the crashing waves on the surface. While our mental state may seem more like the agitated waves on the surface of the ocean; it is possible during meditation to transcend this level of reality and experience the quiet, settled depths below. The experience of this level of life in the individual awareness has the effect of not only stabilising inner calm for that person but also enlivening this peaceful unity for the whole society.

If you want the politicians and leaders of society to make better choices, improve the level of coherence in the collective consciousness and the flow on effect will be automatic.
