A trio of hardworkingcleaners are left facing the axe in Helen Ellis’ new production, Dirty Dusting at The Events Centre. This tongue-in-cheek comedy stars some of Australia’s well-known personalities, including Silver Logie winner Joan Sydney above right), who is best known for her role in A Country Practice, eight-time Best Actress Award winner Anne Phelan, and Maggie King, (above left), who performed in the New Zealand production of Dirty Dusting in 2008.
These lovely ladies might be past their best, beyond their sell-by date and over the hill, but they certainly won’t take threats of redundancy lying down and decide to set up a phone sex service, known as The Telephone Belles.
The show has now been adapted for Australian audiences, and when it was first performed in Newcastle it broke box office records.
