Bright New World

KENDALL became a full time artist in 1993. “The day I won my first competition, I decided there and then that not only was painting my great passion, it was also my profession,” she told us. Seventeen years later, with a long list of sellout exhibitions and a style that is uniquely hers, she has made her mark on the global art scene in a very big way.

“I have always regarded myself as an innovator not an imitator” Kendall added. “People are my inspiration. I love interacting with them and am often described as a ‘performance artist’. I’m definitely not the kind of artist who closets herself in a studio. I’m happiest painting in busy shopping malls with lots of passing traffic.”

Animals, flowers, tropical scenes and city skyscrapers in a semi abstract but readily recognizable style, burst from her canvases in a blaze of colour.

“I see and paint colour first and then the subject begins to take form,” Kendall explained. “My paintings are mixed media. I apply the paint thickly using brushes, palette knives and even my hands if the mood takes me. People buy my paintings because they make them feel happy and alive.”

“Kendall’s paintings are alive with energy and vitality. She works at a furious pace with great energy yet in an organized and efficient manner. It is exciting to watch her work her magic right before your eyes,” said gallery director, Joan Page. “We consider ourselves very fortunate that Kendall was able to spare the time to be our feature artists for February. She will be leaving soon for New Zealand to attend the re-opening of a newly extended gallery where she is the only international artist represented. Then, she is off to Singapore for a special exhibition in which she is the only Australian artist. In between her exhibitions and travels, Kendall has managed to create several new designs for her blossoming homewares business. She is planning to launch these new lines before the end of the year.”

Open daily from 10am to 5pm, the Montville Art Gallery is located at 138 Main Street, Montville opposite the Village Green. From Feb 1st, Kendall’s paintings will be featured under “Exhibitions” on the gallery’s website www.montvilleartgallery.com.au
