THE MARY Cairncross Scenic Reserve volunteers celebrated recently (below) for taking out the 2009 Sunshine Coast Environment Awards “Eco Attraction Award”.
Co-incidentally the award was sponsored by the Maleny Credit Union.
The environment awards are affectionately known as “The Froggies” and the Mary Cairncross volunteers just beat Eco Tourism Noosa and Underwater World for their ‘eco’ award.
The Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve has a total of 75 volunteers who man the desk in the Education Centre. This number also includes 13 trained guides who escort groups through the Reserve.
During 2009 the volunteers handled 85 groups comprising 4120 individuals who are predominantly from private and state schools extending from south of Brisbane to Bundaberg and a school from Toowoomba with classes ranging from preps to year 11.
The Reserve is always looking for more volunteers so if you’re interested phone: 5435 2591.
