MORE THAN 60 members and invited guests attended the December launch of the Maleny Historical Society’s Q150 Grant restoration of the old building known as Lawley House, which was relocated to the Historical Village in Bryce Lane by volunteer members about 18 months ago and is now part of the Maleny Historical Museum.

In 1998 the Maleny Historical Society obtained a grant to fund the restoration of the old Bryce family home – Priscilla Cottage – which they had moved across the main Maleny road to its present position in Bryce Lane. In January 2000, it was the venue for a Bryce family reunion.

Lawley House, was placed next door to the old Bryce home – which had been re-named Priscilla Cottage, after Ben Bryce’s wife and the mother of the three sisters.

Lawley House now holds a collection of memorabilia and posters depicting over 120 years the art of co-operative living. The four themed rooms show the pioneering history, the early industries of timber getting and dairying, Show awards and the prize cattle, homespun art and craft.
