Wolfgang Laemmle ‘Let there be Light …’
KNOWN throughout Europe as “the last great impressionist” and “the painter of the light”, Wolfgang Laemmle migrated from Germany to France in 1998 and opened a gallery and art school in his picturesque chateau “Les Ormeaux” where he tutored many of Europe’s emerging artists.
Wolfgang who speaks very little English, now lives in the Noosa hinterland with his German born partner, Hanni who speaks excellent English and acts as his interpreter as well as doing all his framing.
Since arriving in Australia, Wolfgang has made his mark on the local art scene. In 2008, he was awarded first prize in the Wilderness section at the Kenilworth Arts Show and in 2009, he won the Mary Valley View Point prize.
“Last year was a very busy year for Wolfgang,” Hanni told us. “He had two very successful solo exhibitions one in Switzerland and another in Germany. Whilst in Europe, he visited France in order to collect material for his January show at the Montville Art Gallery.”
“We are delighted to have Wolfgang as our feature artist for January”, said gallery director, Joan Page. “His kudos is staggering: Not only do his paintings hang in many of the world’s finest galleries, but also he has had six coffee table books published about his art. He describes his style as “post impressionism” as he depicts objects and scenes as he sees them and not as other viewers may see them.”
Recently, Wolfgang was selected to have his paintings auctioned on international cruise ships. “We are both very excited by this as we have been invited to join some of the cruises to North America and Europe so 2010 will be a very interesting and exciting year for us both.” Hanni told us.
Open daily from 10am to 5pm, the Montville Art Gallery is located at 138 Main Street, Montville, opposite The Village Green. Commencing on 1 January, Wolfgang’s paintings will be featured under ‘Exhibitions’ on the Gallery website:
