ON 5 JANUARY MAPLETON TAVERN will celebrate its centenary. Built in 1909 by W H Rosser this historic building first opened as as the Ocean View Hotel January 5 1910 and the first licensee was Arthur Charles Johnson. The tavern has always played a significant role in the social history of Mapleton life as the archival picture of about 1916 shows. The Mallet family owned the hotel from 1969 -1997 when it was purchased by the Pickering Family who improved it with verandahs and gazebos to maximise the view for patrons. Nominee Judy Austin has planned a range of celebrations for the centenary including burying a time capsule on Jan 10th.
