“Over the Fence and Overlooked, Traditional plants in Queensland’s Gardening Heritage” is another book about the remarkable garden called “Shambles” in Western Avenue, Montville.
The garden has been developed over the last eighteen years around the century old farm house owned by Kyleigh and Michael Simpson.
The Simpsons are collectors and conservers of charming traditional and often uncommon trees, shrubs, perennials and all sorts of ornamental plants in as many varieties as they can find.
There is no irrigation system at “Shambles” or prescribed rules by which they work. They claim to be enthusiasts not experts and nature, not gardening fashion, is their influence.
Along the way they continue to collect China and Tea roses, grown from cuttings, species Camellias and favourite Japonicas and Sasanquas.
This private garden will be open from 10am – 4.30pm on Sunday October 25 and refreshments will be available. Herbs and perennial plants from “JA’s Herb Farm” will be on sale.
