“To give you a deeper understanding of authentic Feng Shui, I will guide you through a series of case studies in the Hinterland Times over the coming months to illustrate how the Feng Shui of a home relates to peoples’ life experiences” – George Bennis
George Bennis (seen here with his rare Lo Pan compass) is one of only two westerners in Australia to have achieved accreditation as a master of Feng Shui. George is now a resident of Maleny where he is a Feng Shui consultant. He can be contacted by phoning 0417 369 788.
Johey had learnt a bit about Feng Shui and had applied what she had learnt to their family home and investment unit in Noosa.

Having seen some improvements in their sense of wellbeing, she wanted to live in a home that was designed from the beginning using Feng Shui principles. However Mike was sceptical. She was very creative, and an aspiring artist. Mike ran a drafting firm, had a passion for aviation and a dream to own a helicopter.
It was important for them to have a home that supported their health, relationships and Mike’s work. He also required a location where he could land a helicopter. Johey was a shy person who had trouble sleeping and wanted somewhere peaceful.
I explained to them that Feng Shui was a building technology that could tailor-make a house to match them, by using the date, time and location of their birth and their lifestyle.
When I revealed that Feng Shui contained formulas to convert their birth dates into precise orientations so the house is built to match them, Mike became very interested.
As a draftsman the precise orientation of the home and the placement of the rooms to match, appealed to his technical abilities. It was agreed that Mike would draft the plans of the home according to my specifications. Using their birth data, occupations, hobbies and desires, I calculated two or three precise home site orientations. This provided the environmental energy to help manifest their dreams.
Johey and Mike searched for 6 months to find a suitable site, mainly because of the frustrating requirement to be able to find a property to land a helicopter. I visited the site to make a detailed assessment and the ideal orientation for them turned out to be a south- westerly orientation. The site matched their birth details, occupants, and interests perfectly. While it’s not an ideal orientation according to climatic design, consideration for winter sun had to be made at the design stage.
The Qi chart for the home informs the design and explains the orientation and room location. The Feng Shui energy map is used to match the room functions with the appropriate energy. The bedroom is located in the 8 star – the northeast – the ideal energy for health, rest and rejuvenation. It also supports their natal energy according to their birth year.
The outdoor living area is located in the north overlooking the pool for winter warmth and to receive star 9, which indicates happy events. This is the ideal energy for entertaining guests and the location of future prosperity so that the couple enjoy success in the next 20 year time cycle. The numbers or stars as we refer to them in Feng Shui are the number 1 and 4, which indicate creativity and artistic pursuits. This is the appropriate energy for the art studio located in the northwest.
South is assigned the stars 7 and 1. The star 1 relates to writing and drawing and, as Mike is a draftsman and writes computer programmes, this is matched to his occupation.
South west is where the most vibrant energy is located and is assigned the number 8. It represents prosperity and fortune during the current time cycle, and is the ideal energy for the main entrance of the house.
Within 18 months of moving into the home business was going so well that Mike bought his helicopter. Three years later he was able to retire on the royalties from computer software he had written.
Mike says that “all the Feng Shui stuff, with finding the block of land and all the precise drawings and orientations was a real pain in the arse, but well worth it.” Johey made good use of the artistic energy in her studio to paint a series of Feng Shui artworks, and she now has her work distributed by one of Australia’s largest art websites. Johey says “this is the most tranquil and peaceful house that I has ever lived in, and Mike’s business took off from day one of moving into the home.“
The Feng Shui Experience
Feng Shui is based on a wholistic assessment of a location that examines the physical environment in relationship to the metaphysical environment, and how that impacts on the people using the location.
According to Feng Shui principals, a building is a living space. When a building is built it contains a living energy or life force that the Chinese call Qi (pronounced chee).
The life force of a building is what you sense as the atmosphere, energy or ‘vibe’ of the place.
When a Qi map of a building is analysed by a competent practitioner then specific information regarding the occupant’s experiences can be obtained.
Everything from organ pathology to personality traits and the level of prosperity.
