INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed author and psychologist, Robin Grille, will present a series of workshops in Maleny, based on his popular books, Parenting for a Peaceful Worldand andHeart to Heart Parenting. Based on the latest scientific research into babies’ and children’ s emotional development, Robin’s work shows how we parent and care for the children of today shapes the society of tomorrow.
A passionate speaker and social change activist, Robin feels that improved attention to babies’ and children’s emotional needs is the most powerful way to move societies towards sustainability and peace.
The latest information on brain development shows that a parent’s affection and interactions with their baby literally wires up their brain, helping them develop a happy and secure sense of self that will last a lifetime. By meeting your baby’s early attachment needs, you can give your child the most emotionally secure start in life.
Parenting styles in the past have focussed on behavior modification and have used punishment, shaming and manipulation by praise and rewards to get the desired behavior.
Punitive and manipulative forms of discipline are ineffective, according to Robin. They damage a child’s self-esteem and emotional health, and create a society that relies on authoritarian methods of control and conflict resolution. Robin shows how we can move from trying to control our children to connecting with them, improving our relationship with them and engaging their co ‐ operation.
Robin shows us how to be effective and assertive by being ‘real’ with our children, and how to set strong boundaries. We can learn to listen to our children and understand the needs behind their behaviour, and also how to appropriately express our needs and limits as parents.
