Following the Great Impressionists
Born in Brisbane in 1963, Todd is part of the Whisson dynasty of artists. His parents, Eric and Ruth and younger brother Colley are well known in Queensland art circles.
Apart from the invaluable tuition he received from his parents, Todd has furthered his studies under such notable tutors as Ken Wenzel, Dale Marsh, Kasey Sealy and Robert Lovett.
Todd thrives on painting outdoors. “I travel extensively throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria searching for new material. I am equally inspired by the spectacular coastal scenery and the vast inland vistas. I love the bright, warm, sunny colours of the Australian countryside”
In March this year Todd and his painting buddy, Kasey Sealy, travelled to Canberra to view the Degas exhibition at the National Gallery. They then visited Kasey’s father in Tumut, in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, where they spent several enjoyable days soaking up the magnificent autumn colours and the natural beauty of the area with its lush valleys and cool streams.
“We did a lot of plein air painting which we both prefer to studio work, and many of the paintings completed during this trip will be included in my show,” Todd told us.
“We are thrilled to have Todd as our feature artist for August” said Lisa Powell, manager of the Montville Art Gallery.
“He began panting seriously in the 1990s but it was not until 2003 that he gave up his job as a framer to become a full time professional artist. He is now one of our gallery’s most popular and sought after artists.”
Open daily from 10am to 5pm, Montville Art Gallery is located at 138 Main St, Montville, opposite the Village Green.
Todd’s paintings are displayed on the gallery’s website: www.montvilleartgallery.com.au under “Exhibitions” from August 1.
