Two Maleny men have good cause for cheesy grins these days. Markus Bucher Swiss master cheese maker of Maleny Cheese and a new cheesemaker, Trevor Hart won top prizes at the recent Maleny Show.
Each year the cheese competition is eagerly fought out with 57 entries in 2009 in the commercial and farmhouse cheese categories. Cows, goat and buffalo milks are now eagerly contested.
Organiser of the cheese competition Lyn Bromet said the cheeses entered may be separated in excellence by a quarter of a judging point.
Markus Bucher adds to his previous awards by getting the Grand Champion award for his delicious triple cream brie (pictured).
Trevor Hart was reserve champion for his buffalo mozzarella. Trevor sources his milk from the buffalo herd of Mal and Margaret Thompson in Witta, and he has been making his rare cheeses for less than a year. The Thompsons also provided the champion show cheese shield, from timber on their property.
