The magic of the Hinterland has attracted another talented professional to its midst. Dr Bob has opened The Parenting Centre in Maleny and every month in his column, “Parenting with Dr Bob”, he will be available to answer your questions on parenting.
Originally from New York, Dr. Bob started his career as a teacher and basketball coach where he became interested in the psychology of teenagers. He now has a Masters and Doctorate in Psychology specializing in children and families.
Dr Bob wants to be a resource to parents, and become involved in the local community, as he believes that parents have enormous power to effect change in children. “I am keen to work with non traditional as well as traditional families” said Dr. Bob “And as a single parent raising two children myself, I really enjoy relating to people going it alone.”
He feels strongly that it is important for the parents to understand that the children cannot be treated in the same way as the family home or car in the event of a relationship breakdown.
His plans for the Parenting Centre include parenting counseling, mediation, online parenting advice with a secure server to ensure privacy, workshops (See classes and workshop section of the Hinterland Times) and training in advisory parenting model.
