The evergrowing Hinterland arts community is set to expand once again, thanks to the entrepreneurial skills of Maleny artist Gary Myers (below left).
Gary has fulfilled his long-held dream of creating and running his own purpose built gallery. Now he has just completed a 600 square metre gallery which is built on his property on Maleny Stanley River Road. It has been cleverly designed to incorporate workshop space, a large display gallery and workroom as well as tutor accommodation.
The lush, tropical style grounds with the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains in the distance, provide the perfect peaceful setting for the creative juices to flow.
Gary is confident that national and international tutors will take advantage of the peaceful surrounds and amazing facilities, and come to Maleny to share their skills.
“I feel it will help the accommodation and tourism industry of the Hinterland”, said Gary. “On our websitewww.malenyartsretreat.com.au we have put a direct link to the BRBTA website so potential students can go directly and book their accommodation.”
Artists who wish to book the space to run their own workshops can do so, or rent the gallery space for an exhibition. It has kitchen and toilet facilities and plenty of space for opening night crowds.
There are already several classes pencilled in, and as an accomplished painter Gary is offering classes to the lucky few who get in early. Students who attend classes run by Maleny Art Retreat between now and November will go in the draw to win a Gary Myers original painting valued at $4200. Now that’s an incredible incentive to book fast.
Although the official launch of the Gallery will be later in the year, Gary and Helen have kindly invited locals for a sneak peek. The gallery is situated at 901 Maleny Stanley River Road and they can be contacted on 5499 9516.
