The Prime Minister has been challenged by Maleny based winery, Settlers Rise, to include some Queensland wines in the prime ministerial cellar.

Settlers Rise will forward bottles of its Verdelho and Reserve Shiraz to the cellar managers at The Lodge and Kirribilli House. The Verdelho was reviewed by The Courier-Mail last week as “excellent” and the Reserve Shiraz from 35 year old vines has been selected by Master of Wine and international wine judge, Peter Scudamore-Smith for judging in the World’s Greatest Shiraz Challenge and the San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Settlers Rise Winery CEO, Simon Murray said that two Queensland wine styles, a Verdelho and a Shiraz, would be an ideal balance of state representation in the Prime Minister’s liquor cabinet.

“Mr Rudd is a proud Queenslander, so we believe his house staff who select his wines will be interested in high quality Sunshine Coast wines,” Mr Murray said.

It was reported recently that a stock-take of wine at the official residences revealed every other wine-producing state in Australia but Queensland is represented, as well as offerings from France, New Zealand and Canada.
