Fireworks at Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano!
Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park displays the results of 70 million years of volcanism migration and evolution – processes that thrust a bare land from the sea and clothe it with unique eco systems and a distinct human culture including many ancient temples.
The park highlights two of the world’s most active volcanoes, and offers insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands. A new vantage point allows you to get within 600 metres of the lava flow. Outside the park along the south east edge of the Big Island you can witness the fresh lava colliding with the ocean, creating giant clouds of steam.
On my first visit to the “Big Island” I saw the spectacular eruptions of Hawaii’s Mount Kilauea as I flew across the mouth of the crater in a light aircraft – it was thrilling.
Kilauea has become more active over the past 25 years but visitors can safely observe her eruptions at close hand. You can only be awe-struck as you realise that you are participating in an ongoing historic event because you are actually witnessing the creation of earth.
Most visitors to Hawaii stay on the Island of Oahu to soak up the sun on Waikiki Beach and shop in the malls. The Honolulu area is truly a relaxed fun destination where there is as much to do as the time you have available.
My flight to Hawaii to view the volcanoes was just a part of a land and air tour that let’s you explore all of these unique islands.
Overall, my preference was for Kauai, the fourth largest of the Hawaiian islands and known as the Garden Isle. Kauai’s central volcanic peak – Mt Waialeale – is considered to be the wettest place on earth ( apart from Maleny). As a result, the island is covered in lush green tropical scenery.
Just one of the many natural beauties of Kauai is hiking along the Kalalau Trail winding around part of the Napali Coast – it is one of Hawaii’s most spectacular walks. The trail winds along the 915 metre high Napali Cliffs, past cascading waterfalls that drop into the pounding surf below.
If you prefer a more relaxing visit, take a cruise along the Waimea River to the Fern Grotto, or swim on one of Kauai’s 43 white sand beaches. It’s best to hire a car to explore all of the island’s beauty and you really must take a helicopter flight over Waimea Canyon. So picture perfect is Kauai that it has long been the setting for many of those old romantic Hollywood movies.
The best way to explore Hawaii is on a seven night inter-island cruise with NCL, visiting the islands of Maui, Hawaii and Kauai with time ashore to experience the beauty of these diverse and magical Hawaiian Islands.
Right now we have the Hawaiian Islands ON SALE with great value hotel offers as well.
