It doesn’t take much to help bring a child into the world. Members of the Zonta Club of the Blackall Range have come together to compile 1000 birthing kits to be sent to the women of Chad, West Africa. The difficult struggle for existence takes place daily with only minimal, if any, medical assistance.
The basic life saving birthing kits, consist of a one metre square plastic sheet, a small piece of soap, a pair of disposable gloves, three pieces of string, a scalpel blade and some gauze. They are distributed annually by Zonta in conjunction with Ausaid and other international organisations, to a total of 26 countries in Africa and the Asia Pacific regions. Zonta hopes that their contribution will assist the birthing mothers and babies of Chad with a more safe birthing process.
