"Refuge for Jandamarra”, acrylic on board

Tom McAulay has a devoted following across Queensland for his evocative paintings and drawings of the bush. He can convey the taste and smell of the red dirt churned up by cattle hooves as well as the noise and hard work of the muster.
This insight into such a quintessential part of Australian life and history, has built a solid professional artistic career, which has been sustained for over 40 years, but his skills and subjects reach much further.
Tom McAulay will be the featured artist at ‘Art on Cairncross’ from March 14 to April 5. Works will include wonderful depictions of stockmen in charcoal or pen and wash, alongside acrylics of outback scenes, lawyers, race meetings and even an orchestra.
In his youth McAulay had two passions, art and sport (rarely obvious partners), but both helped defined much of his life. These days art is foremost, while his ‘sport’ is focussed on trivia quizzes – more sedentary but equally as competitively fought!

All are welcome to meet the artist on Saturday March 14 from 3 pm or view the works during the gallery hours of Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm.
