Back to school again, and keeping children healthy with natural nourishing foods, good attitudes and some simple supplements can make all the difference as they get back into the stresses of a fixed routine. We need to keep immunity strong , a good childrens’ herbal blend for immunity boosting is olive leaf , mixed with astragalus, liquorice root and some echinacea. These herbs have a combination of antimicrobial as well as immunomodulatory qualities, which simply translates to the ability to kill any micro-organisms present in the system, and to help strengthen the system so that it can fight off any bacteria, viruses and fungus that try to enter the body.
Take about 5ml per 20 kilos of body weight once a day of the 1.2 extract. I prefer not to give children tablets as they are often not so well absorbed as the liquid medicines. We all know that public buildings and situations where a lot of children are present in a confined space all day can be the best places for opportunistic infections to occur, so give your child the best chance each day with some vitamin C which is a good antioxidant, in the form of fresh fruits or in the powder at about 1/4 teaspoon per 20kg body weight in a glass of juice.
Another good measure to help keep immunity strong is to wash hands reguraly throughout the day, there are also some alcohol-based hand cleaning gels available that can be put in your childs school bag, and they can use this before they eat, or after some class room activities. It’s important to remind children of hygiene at school and hand washing is one of the simplest ways to help avoid illness.
If you notice that your child has a lowered immunity , or if there is a virus or flu at the school , then give them an extra dose of the herbal blend and vitamin C. Also, please give me a call and I can make up some great tonics for children to help keep them healthy back into the school year.
