The Maleny History, Preservation and Restoration Society have been awarded  a $10,000 grant from the Premier’s Department to promote Queensland’s sesqui-centenary theme ‘Reflect on our past and imagine our future.’
The grant will help develop, interpret and display the contemporary themes of Maleny’s recent history – something visitors and Sunshine Coast residents are always interested in.
Such themes may include subjects such as the growth of the Maleny Woodford Festival, the development of boutique industries of the last twenty years, the successful artistic community and the co-operatives, from the early dairy co-ops to present day community groups.
The aim of the project is to create comprehensive displays around Maleny’s themes, and to make them accessible particularly to school groups who visit the old Lawley cottage site on a regular basis.
The project will be launched later in the year and people will be able to view these contemporary displays alongside Maleny’s past history.
The community will be involved throughout all stages of the project including community consultation and a volunteering process. Anyone interested in local history, who enjoys research and the chance to learn some new skills are invited to join the Maleny History Society and help create these displays. If you are interested please contact Promotions Officer, Sue McCleary on 54352393.
