Located in the Mayfield Centre at Montville, The Edge Restaurant has achieved a well-earned reputation for its fabulous views, great breakfasts, and leisurely lunches with a cold beer or glass of wine. Coffe and a large variety of cakes are available all day. The restaurant is the ideal place to meet up with friends and linger over the view. But not many people realise that behind the well-run kitchen there are not one, but four highly talented chefs creating the stunning cuisine on offer.
Head Chef Darren Westphal proudly introduced us to his team: Darren is very talented in his own right. During his apprenticeship in Brisbane, he won fourth year apprentice of the year for Queensland, and represented Queensland in the national finals held in Sydney.
Darren has also opened several successful restaurants for various owners in Brisbane including the prestigious Courthouse Restaurant and Lighthouse Restaurant where he picked up two Courier Mail Classic Awards for best Southside Restaurant.
He followed this with a move up north to Airlie Beach for a stint as executive chef at Club Crocodile restaurants on the mainland and Long Island, and also executive chef on South Molle and Hamilton Islands.
Now settled on the Sunshine Coast, Darren has fashioned a menu focusing on Modern Oz cuisine with a hint of Asian and Moroccan influences that are very popular with both the daily influx of tourists and loyal locals alike. Wherever possible Darren uses local suppliers and locally-grown produce. Sous-chef is Aaron Dooley . Peter Valentine has over 25 years local experience as well as ten years experience working in fine dining restaurants overseas. Chef-de-partie is Lukasz Pietrasinski.
