The state of the old tennis courts at the Mapleton Sports Ground gives a pretty good indication of just how long it’s been since tennis has been played at Mapleton, but that’s about to change. The Mapleton Tennis Club has received a grant of nearly $40,000 from the Queensland Department of Sport & Recreation to build a new tennis court.
“After three years of hard work we were really excited to find out the application was successful” said Club President, Chris Carter. “Work on the court is expected to start early in the new year and we’re looking forward to seeing people playing tennis by the middle of 2009”.
The tennis club has space for two courts and further fundraising efforts and grant applications will be organised to build a second court. To find out about memberships phone Chris or Julie on 5445 7241.
