In February this year a creative group of children, under the guidance of local artist Jenny York, decided they wanted to use their artwork to help other children in need.  Twenty-two local children and their families are excited about a wonderful project they are participating in and they are hoping you can assist them.
The two groups of 7 - 14 year olds who attend the weekly art classes in Flaxton, set about creating a children’s story of hope, strength, kindness and courage. They then put their energy and creative skills to work, depicting their stories via a spectacular series of 44 canvases that, when complete, will represent over 10 months of artistic endeavour.
All this effort has been with the aim of being able to donate the paintings to the Nambour Children’s Hospital wing. In a further creative gesture, the canvases have now been turned into a fabulous children’s book, and one will be presented for each bed in the children’s ward.
The original paintings will be exhibited in a week long exhibition at the David Linton Gallery in Maleny, in December.  A gold coin donation will be welcomed on the opening day where the children and their guests will be treated to seeing the final works hung in sequence and presented with the story, as told by the children.
“We are also hoping to be able to present one book for each child/artist and further copies for the regional hospitals,” said Jenny York.
“So far this whole project has been made possible through the donation of time and energy from the local community. We are now looking for donations to assist us with printing costs and are also offering additional copies of this limited edition publication for sale - with all proceeds going to assist with the cost of printing or, to the hospital itself.
If you are interested in making a donation or purchasing a copy of the book (available mid December) please phone Jenny York
