Art conjures up different things for different people, so the challenge of finding artworks to appeal to a broad section of the public can be daunting.
At ‘Art on Cairncross’ directors Tony Gill and Jane Caraffi have certainly always risen to this challenge and find that the key is maintaining high standards while accommodating variety.
One good example of this is Maggie De Manyard (Wretham) who hand-paints exquisite silk scarves for the gallery and who has attained no less than two awards in the past few weeks for her wearable art utilizing recycled materials and felting skills.
She has won the Australian Body Art Recycled Wearable Art Prize at Eumundi, (the piece will now be displayed at the Eumundi Museum) and the Fantasia Fashion (Gondwana) major award in Hobart, where her entry has also been acquired for the new Wearable Art Museum.
“This is another example of the standing and achievements of all of our artists due to their originality and creativity.” said Tony. “These professionals are constantly striving for perfection, be it in painting, glass or ceramic, bronze, marble or silk and each one adds to the fascinating diversity that we aim to display.”
One other comment that is often made about ‘Art on Cairncross’ is their level of real service. They pack and ship works worldwide, regularly take all manner of artworks to homes and offices for viewing in situ, and without any hint of obligation.
If you’ve never been, or haven’t been recently to the gallery, it is time for a visit. “Art on Cairncross” is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm at Cairncross Corner, Maleny. For more details call 07-5429 6404 or see www.artoncairncross.com.au
