Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rangers have completed the $25,000 walking track upgrade to the Kondalilla National Park.
The new 50 metre section of walking track will complete the Kondalilla Falls circuit that closed in 2006 due to unstable cliff edges.
EPA Ranger Brendan Moodie said geo-technical studies conducted in 2006 on sections of the Kondalilla Falls circuit walking track found the surface was unstable.
“The original walking track was closed in February 2006 and work began on constructing an alternative track alignment,” Mr Moodie said.
“More than 70 pre-fabricated concrete steps have been installed into the new track so walkers can access the base of Kondalilla Falls and the stunning view from the lookout.
“The track took a little longer than anticipated to complete due to the terrain and unfavourable weather conditions”
Due to the inaccessibility of the site, a helicopter was used to ferry construction materials in and out of the site.
“Visitors to the park will once again have access to the Kondalilla Falls circuit and the base of the falls,” said Mr Moodie.
During construction, the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk remained open for walkers.
Mr Moodie said EPA rangers would like to thank the locals, neighbours to the park and park visitors for their patience during the construction period.
