Kazi is a bright and happy 17 months old fellow who has limited use of his arms and no use of his legs. He can sit for a while on his own, but can’t sit up or even roll over. That’s because Kazi has the rare disease, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)
While SMA affects the muscles that control posture, the brain functions normally and SMA children like Kazi often develop higher than normal IQs. It is the number one genetic killer of children under two!
There is virtually no specific government funding for this disorder and that’s why the Nambour Garden Club is holding a fund raiser to assist SMA Australia buy the many costly mobility and medical aids their children require. Kazi is the grandson of John and Margaret Harper who will be holding a special fund-raising open garden weekend in their stunning Flaxton garden, ‘Magnolia Close’ on Saturday and Sunday 21,22 September .
The extensive wisteria collection will be in full and glorious spring bloom for the event. Entry is from 10am and costs $5 which includes complimentary Devonshire tea. There will also be plant sales, raffles and light lunches.
